Artistic Statement:
From the vantage point of my heritage and background, being Latina empowers me to persevere through challenges while also serving as an inspiration. I've inherited a strong-willed nature which drives me to pursue progress in spite of adversity. Yet still, I exist at the periphery - silenced by cultural stigmas about those with disabilities. It is possible that we don't recognize how significant our disabled members are because we're so steeped in limiting notions about what constitutes normal. And yet, there's hope for us as Latinos when we embrace diversity no matter how much it can disrupt expectations or be uncomfortable at first; this will lead us towards progressive change over time. - Like children and flowers we grow. - KD
