I am thrilled and honored to announce that my image Destino, has been selected 1st place winner in the Conceptual Category at the 2023 International Photography Competition hosted by FMoPA. I am grateful for the opportunity to have my work evaluated alongside so many talented artists and appreciate the consideration given to my image.
Destino will be on exhibit from June 19th - August 18th 2023 at the Tampa International Airport.
An exhibition opening reception will be held on June 21st, 2023 at the Tampa International Airport from 5:30-7:30pm. All are welcome. (Information provided in the link below)
Destino is a journey into our origins in exploration. The 16th century was a turning point in world history, where the forces of discovery and expansion transformed the world as we know it. The effects of this era still ripple through time, influencing the decisions we make today.
As we navigate the complexities of the modern world, we must take into account the legacy of our shared past. This means acknowledging the fact that our current problems with migration and refugees are deeply rooted in historical inequalities and imbalances of power. We must approach these issues with empathy and an understanding of the broader context.
Through open dialogue, we can create meaningful change. This means engaging with refugees and immigrants, hearing their stories and experiences, and actively working to address the root causes of their displacement. We must work together to build bridges, not walls, and create a future where migration is celebrated, not feared.
Destino is more than a journey - it's a call to action. It's a call for decision-makers to recognize the legacy of history and take steps to address its residual impacts. It's a call for people around the world to come together, listen to one another, and work towards a brighter destiny for all. Join us on this journey - together, we can build a world where migration is not a burden but a celebration of human diversity and resilience.
